Bad Ischl - Heart of the Salzkammergut

Bad Ischl is a popular, year round, holiday destination, surrounded by the most stunning lakes and mountains.It is a very active town, with festivals and events throughout the year.

Explore the town's links with the Austrian royal family. Bad  Ischl was  a favourite residence of the Kaiser Franz Josef and his wife Sissy. They spent over 80 summers here and it possible to visit their summer home The Kaiservilla .Bad Ischl still celebrates its regal past with the Kaiserfest and  Lehar Operetta Festival each summer. 

 Modern day Bad Ischl has a great deal to offer  summer holidaymakers.
There is superb walking, cycling and golf at the nearby Salzkammergut Golf Club. In winter there is excellent skiing ,a short drive away, at Dachstein West , Dachstein Krippenstein and Postalm .
Bad Ischl also has a  thermal spa - Eurotherme - which is great after an active day!

 For those who enjoy music, the summer months provide endless variety with up to 3 concerts a day in the parks and concert halls of the town. The main event throughout the summer is the Lehar Festival which celebrates the life and works of the composer who lived in Bad Ischl. Visit the Lehar Villa where he lived. 

There are lovely walks and cycle rides in the town and surrounding countryside. Or you can just relax on the esplanade and enjoy some coffee and cake at Zauner's Konditorei,

Winter is a magical time in Bad Ischl and the Salzkammergut. The mountains are wrapped in snow and there is every sort of winter pursuit available in the area. After a day in the mountains  why not enjoy an evening in one of the great choice of restaurants and bars in Bad Ischl? Aprés ski in Bad Ischl is very "civilised"

Bad Ischl is less than an hour ,by car, from Salzburg . There are bus and train links to Salzburg and Linz .The area is also  well served by the low cost airlines  from the UK and other European countries to Salzburg, Linz and Munich Airports .

To get the most from your holiday we recommend you hire a car, but if you prefer not to there is excellent local transport.
