Summer in Salzkammergut
The Salzkammergut has so much to offer holidaymakers. There is excellent
public transport (bus and train) but we always recommend a car as the best
way to really explore the region

Walking and Hiking
The Salzkammergut can only be described as a walkers' paradise! There are
marked walks to suit all standards - from gentle strolls to high alpine
tours. Take a look at
www.wandern.at for some
suggestions. We have maps and guides available and can always
recommend routes.

Mountain Biking
The
Salzkammergut Trophy, Austria's largest MTB
marathon has established this region as a top location for mountain biking.
Miles of marked trails cross the mountains and valley. There is something to
suit everyone. Take a look at
www.biken.at for routes and
specialist hire shops. We also have maps and guides and can organise
bike hire.
Cycling and E-Bikes
A great way to explore the Salzkammergut is by bike. Haus Strutzenberger
is a few metres from the Salzkammergut Cycle Way - 345km of leisurely
cycling through the region taking in the main sights. We have bicycles
to hire and there is also a network of
Electric bike (E-Bike) centres across the Salzkammergut

Golf
The
Salzkammergut Golf Club is a short distance from our house, and
visitors are welcome. The 18 hole course set in spectacular scenery, between Bad
Ischl and Strobl. The club has a modern clubhouse and golf shop. The Franz
Laimer Golf Training Centre is next to the course and is open all year.
We
can arrange transfers to and from the golf course and book tee times.
For a change of venue, there are also courses at Fuschl, Mondsee (2 courses)
and Bad Ausee. All are within about 45 minutes drive of our house.

Active Holidays
For those who enjoy an active holiday the area also offers tennis, water sports,
diving, horse riding, fishing, paragliding, climbing, sailing and rafting to
name just a few. For ideas about great things to do in the Salzkammergut - just
ask us.

Places
of Interest
If you prefer a more relaxing holiday you can simply savour the beautiful
scenery and the Austrian villages. Bad Ischl's central location means that is
easy to reach lots of surrounding places of interest.
Lake Wolfgang is just 15 minutes away, with
the villages of Strobl, St Gilgen and St Wolfgang (of "White Horse Inn"
fame) on its shores. You can spend a most enjoyable day sailing between the
villages, stopping off at each one to go exploring. Visit the summer tobogan
rides at Strobl & Fuschl or take the railway to the top of the
Schafberg
mountain for great views across the lakes to the Dachstein mountains.
A short journey away is
Hallstatt, famous for its 4000
year long history of salt mining, and now a UNESCO World Heritage site.
Nearby you can visit the salt mines, the
Dachstein caves , Five Fingers viewing point and the
Ice caves at Obertraun.
The city of
Salzburg
is about an hour away. The
home of Mozart, the city is still alive with fine music, museums, cathedrals and
gardens. You can even take the
"Sound of Music" tour to visit the sites
used in the film.
The region has a rich culture, with festivals throughout the year. There is
always something to visit, to see, or to do, whatever the season: alpine meadows
to walk through in spring; warm lakes in which to swim in summer; golden vistas
in autumn; Advent markets and festive activities in winter. Take a look at our
"What's On" page to see details of forthcoming events.
